An old fallen country your character may be from.
📌 Summary
🛠️ Industrial Might, 🏗️ Rust Belt Revival, 🧰 Union Strong, 🚚 Car Culture
Risen from the wreckage of a disregarded Rust Belt, the Steel Syndicate was born in Detroit from the unity of auto workers, truckers, and machinists. What began as a labor movement then became a full-scale regional power. Each city governed itself, but sent union reps to Detroit to participate in shared planning and defense. Green Bay, Milwaukee, Chicago (nuked in August 2019), and Cleveland all held influence, but Detroit remained the symbolic capital.
The trade and manufacturing that once kept the communities in contact are now gone. Salvaged rail lines and convoys used to link the cities together, with mechanics being revered as cultural heroes. Every citizen served in a rotating militia term through the Zone Security Forces, the "Zees." Crow Coin, minted from recycled metals, powered the region's trade and industry.
While the Syndicate kept the state safe and maintained a strong perimeter for decades, the threat of new zombie strains created by Professor Blunder broke through their defenses, forcing a full evacuation of all citizens.
The Steel Syndicate was no more.

☢️ The Syndicate's Second Sun: The Nuking of Chicago (August 2019)
For decades, Chicago remained one of the Steel Syndicate's largest and most prosperous cities.
On August 28th, 2019, a nuclear-armed missile struck the city. The missile was believed to have been launched from somewhere in the Minnesota Deadlands, though its origin was never confirmed.
The blast destroyed much of Chicago and killed thousands immediately. Fires, collapsing infrastructure, radiation exposure, and the breakdown of medical services caused the death toll to rise further in the following days.
Rumors claimed the weapon was a cobalt bomb similar to those used during the initial destruction of the United States. Whether this was true was never proven, but the resulting contamination left Chicago uninhabitable.
Syndicate trade routes were converted into evacuation and aid corridors as survivors fled into the surrounding territories. Chicago was abandoned, and the Steel Syndicate permanently lost one of its most important industrial and population centers.
🧨 The Fall (2026)
The end of the Steel Syndicate was merciless and unexpected.
Mutated zombies quickly escaped Merchant Island and started spreading across the Deadlands. The Steel Syndicate was one of their first targets. The ZSF did what they could, coordinating with the IWA and the PAU to evacuate as many citizens as possible, but their defenses and cities were overrun quickly. Many succumbed to the newly evolved infection... The Steel Syndicate fell by the end of 2026.
Only small, scattered towns remain inside the borders that were once the Steel Syndicate.

❓Frequently Asked Questions
Feel free to ask questions about Chapter 3 and answers related to the country will be added here.
How did the cities stay connected?
Before the Fall: Convoys, rail hubs, and tightly guarded roadways. The Syndicate rebuilt portions of the old highway and rail systems using salvaged tech and sheer determination. Truckers and rail operators were highly respected. What kind of society was the Syndicate?
Syndicalist at its core. Cities were self-governed by labor councils made up of union leaders and elected reps. Every citizen was expected to contribute, whether through trade, defense, logistics, or repair work. Pride in skilled labor was central. What was the "ZSF" or the "Zees"?
The Zone Security Forces. Every citizen served a rotation in the Zees by defending borders, escorting trade, or helping manage outbreaks. It was not a standing army but a shared civic duty.Could my character have been in a union?
Absolutely. Most adult Steelers belonged to one, whether they were mechanics, metalworkers, transporters, or even medical staff. Union membership could have been a major part of a character’s identity. It's possible you or your parents could still have union ties, but the actual unions have all fallen and dispersed. What's with the car culture?
It was everywhere. Cars were identity, pride, and practicality rolled into one. From souped-up war wagons to lovingly restored classics, vehicles were a major form of expression and competition. What was the deal with Crow Coins?
They were minted in Detroit from recycled metals pulled from scrap yards, abandoned rail lines, and gutted machinery. Each coin was hand-pressed using repurposed minting equipment restored by Syndicate machinists. The side opposite the crow typically bore the emblem of the workshop or union responsible for that particular batch, giving every coin a traceable origin and a touch of personality.
