📌 Summary

🏜️ Hot, 📦 Market Town, ⚔️ Deadlands, ☠️ Mysteriously Disappeared

Shelter was once a thriving trade post: a rare beacon of prosperity amid America's most desolate regions. Originally established by survivors who emerged from the desiccated ruins of Amarillo, the town flourished because its fertile land was insulated from the worst of the Deadlands by a ring of mountains and rocky barriers.

Rumors of the town were carried on the lips of trail-worn wanderers and deranged vagrants alike. Their whispers reached as far as the Splinters, and perhaps you've even heard them yourself. A town spoken of, but never recorded. A myth. The settlement that somehow endured against all odds.

Appearing in mirages and through dust storms, the exact route to Shelter (and most anything else in the Deadlands) could never be mapped. If you were to chance upon it, you could count yourself lucky. It was an oasis and bustling merchant town where you could find anything you needed. Its inhabitants weathered the roaming hordes and vicious bands of raiders. For years, Shelter persevered.

However, like many myths, the town eventually fell into obscurity. Legend says there was a lone radio signal from the town, echoing over the quiet dunes, before everything went dark and no one has heard from its inhabitants since.

Recently rediscovered by the Sentinels, an open invitation is sent to help rebuild the settlement. Will you take up the offer to bring back the safe haven it once was, or will you let it continue being a part of the abandoned Deadlands?

🕰️ Shelter Timeline

  • April 2000
Just 3 years after the bombs drop, a brave group of souls establish a trading town in the Deadlands, naming it Shelter. It soon becomes the longest-standing trade town in the Deadlands, making survival possible in the region.

  • Sometime in 2025
No one knows exactly when it disappeared. Many believed it was simply difficult to find in the shifting Deadlands, but it seemed as though it was wiped off the face of the Earth that year. No one has visited or heard from its inhabitants since then.

  • Around 2040
A garbled radio signal goes out from deep within the Deadlands, somewhere near Shelter's rumored location.

  • January 2042
The Sentinels rediscover Shelter via the signal. Their first scouts find the town in ruins, without a single living soul in sight. They put out a message for people to come to help rebuild what was once lost.
